Woman on the Edge

… of a nervous breakdown.

Completely forgetting this blog last week, I wasn’t able to update my status of Miss Marist. Surprisingly enough however, I did manage to get a blog post in, even though I was home. I have never in the history of my Marist career done work over Thanksgiving, so this was a huge effort on my part. Ironically, it was one of my most well- received posts. I got a lot of positive feedback from readers and a healthy amount of “likes” on Facebook. Further encouragement that I actually am funny, and am relating to my audience.

Coming back to school yesterday, however, was a struggle. The amount of work that I have to complete between today and next Monday is unreal. Three papers, and a capping presentation. KILL ME NOW. My plan: write one of the last weekly posts for Miss Marist tonight, and then between tomorrow and Wednesday finish the pages with the music and the food. And then, it’s just one more blog post away and maybe a few edits on the page away from being done. I can’t believe that this semester went by so fast, and that I have to show the class my blog skills next week. God, help me.

The Final Days

So being that last week I had suffered from sever anxiety about the blog’s status, I actually did what I had set out to do. I 86ed the page about events, since there aren’t too many student run events for capping going on. I did serious, SERIOUS, interviewing and banged out a majority of my senior slams. The ones that I haven’t completed yet are the ones that I am still waiting on answers from, so thankfully thats going smoothly. The post was up and successful, and one of the ones that received a lot of positive feedback. My friends loved the shoutouts, and so many people were giving me the whole, “that’s exactly how I feel!”, which felt amazing. I added a page, the soundtrack of our lives, that I have already started to comprise a playlist on, and will work more on that tomorrow. I also added to the fat fox problems page, something that I will also build on tomorrow. I gave the site a pretty border, taken by yours truly her freshmen year, and I might change the layout of the site, but I’m still not sure about that yet. This week’s post was dedicated to Starbucks, as I grow to love it more and more each day and felt that it was only appropriate. A mere 2 more weeks is what stands between now and this project’s due date, and I can’t be more thrilled to finally present my work. Yay for productivity!

Its November?

Another week, another month. The stress is really setting in this week. After having the craziest two weeks of my life with work for other classes, it finally hit me that right after thanksgiving this blog should be DONE. WHAT?! This week will be DEDICATED to this blog. The post is already written, pictures included, now some major maintenance will be taken care of. I hope that by the time that Thanksgiving break comes around, I’ll feel more confident about the blog, because right now, I am stressed to the max about it. God, help me.

The Week of the Hurricane

Being that last week I missed one of the rare times that my capping class actually meets, I was thrown off a little by the scheduling. After I dropped off my grading rubric in the very classy Lowell Thomas mailboxes, I e-mailed by teacher to see what I had missed. Long story short, I need to get my professional evaluations pronto. I made moves and decided that my old internship supervisor, Paige Miller, would be a great source to read my blog. She’s young, funny, works in the field that I want to get into, and I actually miss her more than its probably normal to miss a boss figure. Figuring out who the other evaluator should be was a little more confusing. I finally resolved that Gerald McNulty would be a good person to ask to read the blog, since he is very experienced with a broad range of communications fields and would be able to give me an accurate reading about whether or not my blog would be successful. I e-mailed  them both, heard back from Paige, and am still waiting on McNulty.

Now on to Miss Marist. Originally, I had thought that this week’s post would be about Halloweekend. Then I actually tuned in to watching the news and got my head out of my ass to discover that YIKES, we’re being hit with a hurricane. This very hurricane has completely rocked Marist to its core, so how could I NOT include this in my blog? I mean this is primo writing opportunities here. Hopefully it will give everyone a little relief by reading, and also grab the attention of everyone at Marist, since due to cancelled class, a lot of people have some serious free time on their hands.

The Awkward Week

This past weekend, I found out that some people I know from other colleges have been reading my blog. While this excited me, it also made me a little nervous because I then was plagued with the thought that my blog was attempting to entertain people from other schools. EEks. This made me rack my brain for a subject that would obviously focus on Marist students to enjoy, but also other kids. The idea came to me when I was sitting alone in my bed on Sunday night. Creepy I know. Anyways, my favorite past time when I’m bored is looking back at old pictures and videos I have on my computer. This being said, the best time of my life that I love to look back on is my abroad experience. Bingo. Inspiration has come. Not only is this such a huge thing about Marist, but kids from other schools also travel abroad. This week I figured that because its also a weird week, between midsemester and halloweekend, that it would be great for me to reminisce about my favorite semester.

Also, progress has been made on the senior slam page, and the first interview is up! Woohoo!

Midsemester Break Blues

Being a completely over the top senior, I decided to make what to all other Marist students is a mere weekend away from Poughkeepsie, an entire week long vacation. I hate to be cliche and say that it was “so needed” or “absolutely necessary” but it truly was. Getting away from the Hudson Valley for an extensive amount of time gave me time to clear my head and get my mind right for the next half of the semester. Of course upon returning to school, I was bombarded with a million and one little things that I needed to do. One main concern was that I was seriously slacking on my position within my sorority. Alpha Sigma Tau is a huge part of my life. I mean, it always was, but especially now because I hold a position on the Executive Committee, it takes up a great deal of my time. Also, my sisters are honestly my best friends here. Because of all of the sorority girl madness, I decided that this week’s blog post would be dedicated to my sister, and all the other under appreciated, and under privileged greeks here at Marist. While not a very big greek life school (damn New York State and it’s rules about brothels), when you are in a sorority or a frat, its a huge part of your life, and I feel that this should definitely be included in Miss Marist.

Moving right along on my actual layout progress, I added three new pages that I am going to start working on. The Events page is where I want to put all of the events that my other happy cappers are planning for the semester. Senior Slam is where I plan on putting interviews of seniors from various different backgrounds about their plans for the future/ fears/ fave things about Marist. And Fat Girl Problems, my personal fave, is where I’m going to highlight my favorite pig out spots of the Hudson Valley, and tell everyone what to order when they go there. I still need to add a few more pages, but as of now, things are going pretty smoothly.

Getting the Ball Rolling.. sort of

So Miss Marist officially has two blog posts under her belt. Score! My first one ever, dealing with family weekend and the changes, or lack there of, between senior and freshmen year was extremely easy to write I found. It was a nice little venting session, and I actually found that it helped me sort my emotions out. While the blog still lacked some visual personality, I was glad to get the first post out there and start tweeting/ facebooking/ and advertising the blog.

Feedback was amazing! Almost every person that read the post told me that they loved it, and that they didn’t know I could write so well. I guess my appearance is deceiving, and I do in fact look like an idiot since so many people were surprised that I could compose a witty sentence. Oh well, not the point. After hearing so many positive things about the blog, I decided that she (and yes I went there and personified a virtual blog) needed a little bit of a facelift. Seeing as how I’m still getting the hang of WordPress, I didn’t go too crazy with formatting, but at least decided on a layout theme and added an About the Author page. Woohoo for accomplishments!

My next blog post, about the Marist Electronic Dance Movment was a little bit more difficult to write. I think this may have been because I am personally invested in the movement, but who knows. I also figured out how to upload a YouTube link to a blog post, which although may seem insignificant to some, made me feel like Bill Gates. She’s really starting to come together now, and each week I hope to slowly but surely tweak the site to give it more personality and touches of Marist. No promises of that happening this week though, with all the midterm madness/ midsemester break. Here’s to next week. Insert cheesy song about how “Tomorrow’s only a day away” sang by a little redhead with a cute dog.
